Efficient Wet Adhesion through Mussel‐Inspired Proto‐Coacervates

نویسندگان

چکیده

Adhesion underwater is a major challenge. Mussel-inspired complex coacervates functionalized with L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA) are proposed for adhesives through versatile chemistry of DOPA, however, simple, efficient, controllable, and nontoxic procedures to harness them still under investigation. In this study, inspired from the mussel byssus formation process, coacervate formed by simple injection an acidic proto-coacervate DOPA polyelectrolytes on surfaces. The initially liquid, it increased in pH due water diffusion, resulting coacervation driven electrostatic interaction, without requirement adjustment or organic solvents. Additionally, liquid–liquid phase separation tuned substituting different pKa, which satisfied real life. coacervate-based glass substrates exhibit strengths comparable commercial glues when dry glue wet, showing high biocompatibility human epidermis vitro.

Wet adhesion of graphene

Interfacial adhesion between graphene and various substrate materials is essential for practical applications of graphene. To date, most of the studies on adhesion of graphene have assumed dry adhesion of van der Waals type. In this paper, we conduct molecular dynamics simulations to study the traction–separation behaviors for wet adhesion of graphene on amorphous silicon oxide covered by a thi...

Tough Wet Adhesion of Hydrogel

In nature, robust interfacial adhesion plays crucial roles in maintaining integration and functionality of various physiological structures including tendon and cartilage to bones and epidermis to dermis in mammalian skins. For instance, the bonding of tendon and cartilage to bone is extremely tough (e.g., interfacial toughness ~800 Jm 2 ), yet such tough interfaces have not been achieved betwe...

Efficient Wet Paper Codes

Wet paper codes were proposed as a tool for constructing steganographic schemes with an arbitrary selection channel that is not shared between the sender and the recipient. In this paper, we describe new approaches to wet paper codes that enjoy low computational complexity and improved embedding efficiency (number of message bits per embedding change). Some applications of wet paper codes to st...

Wet adhesion between two soft layers.

Two solids can adhere to each other in the presence of a liquid bridge between them, which is called wet adhesion. When the solid is soft, the liquid bridge can cause deformation in the material, and in turn, the deformation may have dramatic effects on the wet adhesion. To investigate the effect, in this article, we calculate the deformation in two soft layers with different separations and co...

Gecko Adhesion on Wet and Dry Patterned Substrates

Perhaps one of the most astounding characteristics of the gecko adhesive system is its versatility. Geckos can locomote across complex substrates in a variety of conditions with apparent ease. In contrast, many of our synthetic pressure sensitive adhesives fail on substrates that are dirty, wet or rough. Although many studies have investigated the effect of environmental challenges on performan...
